3. Develop information networks for agriculture

1. An information network connects OAE and all of its regional offices (ROAE), enabling these offices to send survey data and reports.
2. Statistical survey data (source data) are input to computer at ROAE and sent to OAE through the network (distributed data processing), cutting lime lags between the survey and data publication.

Activities and outputs realized to date

1. OA equipment (computers, screen projectors, etc.) was installed to OAE and ROAE.
2. Data input and processing programs for the crop cutting surveys for cassava and sugarcane were developed. The project held training sessions for ROAE staff on the use of these programs. The program enabled OAE/ROAE to process the survey data easily and quickly.

Planned activities in the near future

1. A home page will be opened in all ROAE, which creates environment conductive to sending messages/information to general public and send/receive statistical survey data among different offices.
2. Present systems of survey data processing used by OAE will be improved so that the data publication may take place more quickly. Data processing and reporting programs for improved surveys by the Project will be developed.
