Training aims at human resource development. ASEAD Project sets two target groups for its activities for training:
- Statistical personnel in Thailand: Staff of CAI (OAE) and ROAE as well as hired enumerators by ROAE will be trained for statistical data collection, data processing and information network, and economic analysis.
- Training of trainers: There are two types of targeted trainers.
- Trainers who guide and teach AFSIS training programs. The ASEAD counterpart who acquired technology through the project will, in turn, disseminate it to ASEAN member countries. We have already found that these counterparts were quite motivated toward this target.
- Trainers who guide and teach in Thailand. OAE counterparts are expected to have capacity to teach OAE/ROAE staff. ROAE counterparts should be able to teach enumerators for statistical survey methods and procedures.
Training of data input for cassava crop cutting
A CAI counterpart is explaining how to use data input software for cassava crop cutting survey to the staff of ROAE (late February 2004). Introduction of similar software for other surveys is expected to shorten time lags before the final publication of survey results.
Training of preliminary survey for rice crop cutting
Training was conducted early in May for the preliminary survey for rice crop cutting. OAE counterparts and ROAE staff joined in Pitsanulok and Suphanburi and stayed 3 days each. Lectures, field practice and discussion of the results were combined as the training methods. Video presentation and participatory approach was tested for better understanding by the participants.
Participants of the training was generally favorable, though some replied the field work was quite tough. For the next training (to be held in September), we hope that ROAE staff will be teaching the field survey enumerators, instead of OAE counterparts.
